RTW: Summer Soundtrack

Road Trip Wednesday is a 'Blog Carnival' where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This week's topic:
What music has been your summer soundtrack?

My musical tastes tend to be all over the map, but this is what I've been listening to A LOT so far this summer (some of these are on my WiP playlist and others are just ones that I like):
*All titles are linked to iTunes*

The Lumineers - Ho Hey

Imagine Dragons - It's Time

Florence + The Machine - Cosmic Love

And then there's the soundtracks:
The Dark Knight Rises - Rise
City of Ember - One Last Message
The Island - My Name is Lincoln
Downton Abbey - The Suite

There's a whole lot more, but you'd be hear all day and this page would get ridiculously heavy with YouTube links. What have you been listening to this summer?

  1. I think I was commenting on Robin´s post and noted that usually, my TBR explodes with RTW, today, my list of tunes I want to get on iTunes is getting quite long! Going to add some of yours right now (that first song is wow, love it!:D)

    1. I need to get around to the other blogs still, but I know what you mean. Ginger from GReads is who I credit for introducing me to The Lumineers and Imagine Dragons. And Flo and Imogen Heap are both just awesome. :D

  2. Nice picks! I love that Lumineers song, and I didn't know who sang it. I'm so partial to that sort of folk-inspired style of music, and I love how popular it's been getting lately.

  3. Oh, I know what you mean. I could talk about music for days and days! I love soundtracks ... love to write fight scenes with them on the background.
<3 Florence and the Machine and Image Dragons.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I find I tend to listen to soundtracks a little more when I'm finding songs with lyrics to be too distracting (when I'm writing). They're great for creating a mood, but a lot less distracting. :)

    1. I'm a major Imogen Heap and Florence + The Machine fan (among others). I realized sometime back that most of the music I listen to comes from the UK. Man, there's some great music coming from your direction! :)

  5. I can't say I've been consistently listening to particular tunes all summer, though I have been watching old editions of the British music show Top of the Pops--as you can see on my response to this week's RTW. :) Not surprised to see the Downton Abbey soundtrack on your list... :)

    1. It's kind of funny because almost the entire Downton Abbey soundtrack is the theme song at the beginning of the show--the Suite, I guess. That's all right because I really like it. :)

  6. I loved the music from BRAVE! I should head over to iTunes for that.

    1. I came home from watching the movie and purchased the soundtrack on iTunes right away. But then, I'm kind of a sucker for anything Celtic. :)

  8. I've never heard of Imagine Dragons until now and I love them! Thanks for sharing! Fantastic songs and I love the lead's voice. Must get some more of their work.

I love soundtracks too. My favourite ones are Rent, Fright Night and The Lost Boys. Awesome songs.

    1. The song "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons is actually on The Perks of Being a Wallflower movie trailer. They don't actually have very many songs out, but I did buy what they have on iTunes. :)

    1. And then there's "Shake It Out" by Florence + The Machine which might be my favourite, but I've been giving it a break lately because I was wearing it out. And I've listened to Imagine Dragons an embarrassing amount of times. :)

  10. I LOVE Florence and the machine & Imogen Heap, great picks! & soundtracks are always great for writing. Lyrics too often distract me.
My summer playlist has been more relaxed, with one favorite song whose lyrics were penned by a YA author :)

  13. I really like that Lumineers song, too. Maybe when I am not watching the Olympics sixteen hours a day I will listen to some of those other songs! I like Florence & The Machine and Imogen Heap generally, but not sure I know those songs specifically. I've been collecting songs for when I have time at home for housework and writing (after our move!) so these will go on the list.

  14. I love Florence + The Machine. My summer playlist has been dominated by fun., The Civil Wars and Linkin Park. But recently, I've had the M83 song, Midnight City, on near constant repeat:

  16. Awesome summer soundtrack! I've been listening to a lot of top forty - it's what I exercise to and I'm trying to get all the walking in that I can before I go back to work. Which is TOO SOON. Hope you're having a great week!

  17. You have some great songs here. I've really been enjoying Imagine Dragons this summer. Their songs just feel "big" to me, for some reason I can't explain.
