Bookshelf Peekaboo

Today the ladies over at YA Highway are showing off their bookshelves, and I've noticed that other blogs have decided to join in the fun. Because I feel like being a joiner, I've decided to share pictures of what my overflowing bookshelves hold:

It was very difficult to find the best angle to capture my shelves completely, but I tried. There are more stacked on top too.
And yes, that is a stuffed Jane Austen doll on the shelf. She looks a touch Muppet-y, but that just adds to her coolness.

Then there's my TBR shelf (there are unread books on the other shelves too). But these are at the top of the TBR pile:

One thing is for certain: I won't be running out of reading material any time soon!

And all the sweet serenity of books.

  1. My jaw literally just dropped. I am so jealous of all that shelf space! We finally have room for (I hope) enough shelves to store all my books, but after the move we have to go slowly with new purchases, so we don't have the actual shelves yet. Your shelves look AWESOME.

Also: of what I can see on your TBR? Pick up Variant when you have a few hours. One of my students just reminded me of its awesomeness in an email. It's a fairly quick read because it becomes kind of unputdownable.

    1. This collection has been in the works for some time now. My husband curses the multitude of boxes of these things every time we move. O_o

I started reading VARIANT when I first got it, but got distracted and put it down for some reason. I've been meaning to get back to it, and now I'll have to with this recommendation.

  2. Ah, what a great idea. I want to do this too, but since I "just" moved from Brazil to the US, my bookcases are still there *cries* I have only a handful of books here lol
    Nice, Jaime.
Yeah, I guess you won't be running out of books to read anytime soon! hehe Have fun!

    1. Well, I hope your books find their way to your new home soon. :) I love being surrounded by books and always having options for something to read.

  3. You've got some great books on those shelves! And I am so jealous of all the space you have! I think shelves on every wall would be wonderful, by the way. I just can't wait for the day when I have my own place and a room devoted entirely to books.

    1. My dream would be a really great den/library with books on every wall. How great would that be? :)

  4. Wow! So organised!

    I'd share mine but... no ^^;

    1. I kind of have a thing for organizing my books according to genre. It kind of drives me bonkers when I run out of space for a particular type of book. I should really consider donating some of them or doing giveaways. :)

  5. This post is timely because I was just in our recroom digging through all our bookshelves in search of a particular book. Didn't find it, but stumbled upon a much nicer, much older copy of the same book in our built in china cabinet in the dining room--a copy I didn't even know I owned. Basically we have books shoved into every nook and cranny of our house and this reminds me how badly I need to organize them!

    1. Me too! And as for having multiple copies of books, I kind of have that 'problem'. I've counted at least four different copies of JANE EYRE, ranging from the super old to the super recent. Some of them are just so old you don't really want to sit down and read them. They're more for just collecting. :)

  6. I am so jealous of all the space you have for your books! I have to limit myself to one shelf in this apartment--blurgh.

    1. More space equals more room for clutter. Every time we move my husband freaks about the number of boxes of books. I almost feel guilty. Almost. :)

    2. Once I pull all the books out of the spreadsheet of things we packed, I'll get back to you with a number. But...it's a lot. You're not alone.

    1. I've read a good number of the books on these shelves, but there is still a lot there to keep me busy. :)

  10. Wow. I feel like my bookshelves are seriously lacking. :) I love this, btw! I may have to show off mine too.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. ...Or you just have better self-control than I do! :) I love being surrounded by books, especially when I'm writing.

Hope you have a great weekend too!

  11. I'm just looking to see if LEVIATHAN is still on your TBR... :)

And I have that exact same edition of Shakespeare's Complete Works. I've had mine since the early-to-mid '80s, I think. I got it for Christmas one year.

    1. LEVIATHAN isn't on the TBR shelf, but it is in the first picture on the top shelf. It's one of the TBR books on my main shelves.

I can't remember when I got that copy of Shakespeare's works, but it was a lot more recent than the 80s. :)

  12. Wow! Seriously, that bookcase is amazing. My books are so scattered about. I was thinking of joining in too for my Monday post.:)

    1. Thanks, Robin. :) My hubby has a bookshelf in his office too, but our books are mostly all in the same area. It's nice to write and have these shelves full of books sitting right behind me. Call it inspiration!

    1. I love the shelves too! :) I know you're probably referring to the books themselves, but the shelves are pretty awesome too. They're Billy bookshelves from IKEA, and I swear these things are the sturdiest shelves ever. They don't sag at all, which is saying a lot because these shelves are pretty crammed with books. :) You can actually get extender shelves to go on top, and I should really consider getting some.

    1. Thanks, Alexa. :) I like reading mostly YA books, but I love collecting old classics as well. The oldest book that I own is a copy of WUTHERING HEIGHTS (which I still haven't read) that's about 112 years old. I also have a copy of UNCLE TOM'S CABIN that's nearing the 100 years mark (and is in remarkably good condition). There's just something about super old books that I find so appealing. :)

  15. A whole wall of books! And it's so neat! And then your TBR bookshelf. Lets just say I'm coveting right now. Thanks for sharing!

  17. Oh. Em. Freaking. Gee. Your shelves are so amazing. Beautiful. Organized. I want to come live in your library. My eyes aren't so great, but I was drooling over some of the titles. Love the little Beatrix Potter box and the antique shelf.
