Road Trip Wednesday is a 'Blog Carnival' where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
THIS WEEK'S TOPIC:
Good for a laugh: Who is your favorite comedian or funny book and/or movie?
Comedian(s)
Lately? This completely hilarious lady:
Rebel Wilson aka "Fat Amy" in Pitch Perfect.
(Bonus points for stealing the entire show.)

Annnd anybody who is willing to dress up like this for the sake of comedy:
Justin Timberlake, Bobby Moynihan, and Andy Samberg performing
(Mr. Samberg gets bonus points for that crazypants face.)
Funny Book:
I don't tend to read much in the way of comedic books, but I know that I laughed out loud while reading this one:
by Julie Halpern
(Bonus points for a scene involving Krispy Kreme
donuts that made me choke I was laughing so hard.)

Funny Movie:
Napoleon Dynamite
This movie never ceases to crack me up. The first time I saw
it it was like a train wreck I couldn't look away from. Every
time since it has just gotten funnier and funnier. Heck yes!

How about you? What kinds of comedians, books, or movies make you laugh?
* Seriously, go watch this video on YouTube. My face hurts from laughing.
This was tough--there isn't just one book/movie/TV show I could point to as my favourite. I've not seen much later SNL, but the early shows I've seen (from the 70s and 80s) are very funny.
ReplyDeleteIt was tough! Like I said on your blog, I found it challenging to come up with a book that I found funny from start to end. Most books I read have funny bits in them, but they aren't comedies per se. Now Napoleon Dynamite is something that makes my face hurt, it makes me grin and/or laugh from beginning to end. Such a silly little train wreck. :P
DeleteOh god, I just went to watch that SNL clip. HILARIOUS! Justin Timberlake can shake that booty!
ReplyDeleteI really need to go and watch that video clip again. I stumbled across it only recently, but just watching those three dance around in those getups was enough to crack me up. Too funny! :)
DeleteI love all of these, but I haven't read Into the Wild Nerd Yonder. Clearly, I need to. :)
ReplyDeleteINTO THE WILD NERD YONDER was a cute little book, but one that I haven't heard anybody mention before. Weird, because I totally enjoyed it. Nerd boys are the best, in my opinion/experience. :)
DeleteHeck yes on 'Napoleon Dynamite'. You're right -- the first time I watched it, I was like "What just happened? What is this movie?" But every time I rewatch it, I catch something else that makes me love the movie a little more ("Do chickens have talons?")
ReplyDeleteThis is really making me want to go watch it. Like, right now. :P ("Yeah, there's like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join 'cause I'm pretty good with a bo staff.")
DeleteLove your picks. Rebel Wilson is hysterical though. I love Amy Poehler. Parks and Rec is a fave of mine, although, lately it has been surpassed by New Girl. That show splits my sides.
ReplyDeleteShe totally cracks me up. I saw a good chunk of Bridesmaids, but I don't remember her in it. She gave a pretty standout performance in Pitch Perfect, though. :) I've been meaning to sit down and watch Parks and Rec as well as New Girl right from the beginning. I should probably do that, right? :)
DeleteI love the movie Pitch Perfect! So funny!
ReplyDeleteI ALSO loved Napoleon Dynamite too!! :D Great answers!
I've seen Pitch Perfect twice now, and with the exception of the projectile vomit, I think I could watch it over and over again. And as for Napoleon Dynamite, that one is just always funny. :)
DeleteWhat great choices - I will check out 'Into the Wild...' as I haven't read it.
ReplyDeleteJustin Timberlake in that clip. *HEART HIM*
INTO THE WILD NERD YONDER was just a cute little book. And since I have a preference for boys of the nerdy persuasion, it was right up my alley. :)
DeleteThe funny thing about JT is that in that video you can tell that he actually can dance. Too funny!
I'll have to put that book on my TBR. And I love Pitch Perfect! Now I wanna go watch it again.
ReplyDeleteThe book is totally cute, and I love a good nerdy love interest. :) I really enjoyed Pitch Perfect too, and which the exception of the projectile vomit, I could probably watch it over and over again.
DeleteLove the ladies of SNL!!! I have to admit, I didn't make it through Napoleon Dynamite--I think I had heard too many good things about it before I saw it. I don't do well in high-pressure viewing situations. (It's in good company, though: I also rage-quit The Usual Suspects and made it through but hated the first Indiana Jones. Talk about "it's not you, it's me". I'm terrified to watch Star Wars, at this point the most gaping hole in my pop culture knowledge.)
ReplyDeleteThe ladies of SNL are so, so funny. I watched the Mom Jeans skit on YouTube last night and was totally cracking up. Napoleon Dynamite is definitely an acquired taste. I think what appeals to me about it is how quoteworthy it is and just how ridiculous Jon Heder looks in it. :P
DeleteI can't believe you've never seen Star Wars! I think it's probably a bad idea to watch it for the first time now, though. O__O
Yes to all of this, except the first one because I haven't seen it. I'm picturing Rachel Dratch dressed as Harry Potter right now. Loved INTO THE WILD NERD YONDER too. :)
ReplyDeleteAll I see when I look at pics of Rachel Dratch is her in HP getup. :P Those ladies totally crack me up. Rebel Wilson was hilarious in Pitch Perfect, though I could have done without the projectile vomit in a couple of scenes. O__O Ick.
DeleteFat Amy was the best! I use the "horizontal running" excuse waaaayyy too often.
ReplyDeleteShe totally stole the show, which was fine by me because she was hilarious! :P
DeleteI have to say, I've had no complaints with any of the things J.T. has done with the Lonely Island on SNL. (I have all the words to "Motherlover" memorized. I feel like I should feel guiltier about this than I actually do, because it's waaaaaay NSFW.)
ReplyDeleteRebel Wilson was also amazing in Bridesmaids. Or maybe just all the time. That works right?
The Lonely Island stuff makes me laugh until I cry, but it's soooo NSFW or for the blog. I'm not sure which one of those videos cracks me up the most. I think maybe "Jack Sparrow", because Michael Bolton was such a good sport for being in it. (The guy is the kind of cheese.)
DeleteI really need to watch Bridesmaids again because I didn't make it to the end the first time around. I could use more comedy (and Rebel Wilson antics) in my life. :)
Nailed it. Love all this, Jaime. This is all classic humor! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Morgan! I could use more humour in my life. :)
DeleteI a simply SMILING as I read this post! I LOVE all your choices! And while I haven't seen all of Pitch Perfect (it's on the must buy list when I get paid), my daughter's shown me enough on YouTube to make me LOVE Fat Amy.
ReplyDeleteGreat comedic choices! Hope all is well!
Very cool blog. Interesting posts. ;)

There is too much funny in one blog post. Can't handle it.
ReplyDelete*giggles*
So so many good things here. Confession: I still haven't watched Pitch Perfect. I need to, though, because it's all over my Tumblr. I also need to watch that SNL you posted. Was that last week's. Also, love me some Napoleon Dynamite. Sorry I've been absent on your blog! It's been a crazy month at work. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that book, but I love funny books so I'll have to give it a try! Come to think of it, almost all the books I adore are hilarious on some level.
