Ready. Set. WRITE!

Are you lacking in motivation? Does it feel like your productivity is dwindling now that the sun is shining and luring you outdoors? Do accountability and goal-setting seem like things you really need in your life? Well, rest easy, folks! Have we got a solution for you...

{*End cheesy snake oil salesman pitch.*}

Recently, Alison Miller got to thinking that summer would be the perfect time to get some serious writing done. She pitched the idea of doing a summer writing intensive to a few of us, something that would stretch out a bit longer than NaNoWriMo and provide an opportunity for us to cheer each other on in whatever stage of writing we're at—planning, drafting, revising.

And that's how Ready. Set. WRITE! was born. Alison Miller, Katy Upperman, Elodie Nowodazkij, Erin Funk, and I are hosting this summer writing intensive and we'd LOVE for you to join us! We plan to kick off a summer of writing Tuesday, June 11th and write, write, write for two months. We'll update weekly on what we've been writing and our new goals for the week? Care to join us in our writing bliss?!

A few more dirty detes:

PURPOSE:  For drafting/revising/writing flash fiction, short stories, novels—whatever! As long as we're writing, right?

What we'll do:
  • Set weekly goals {or monthly or overall goals} for what we hope to achieve. Again, whatever works!
  • Update weekly on What's Up Wednesday {in the writing section, of course}. We'll share what we've accomplished and set goals for the new week. We can also include a snippet or just gush about our stories. {Don't know what What's Up Wednesday is? Check it out HERE.}

We'll also be hosting occasional drafting/revising parties on Twitter, providing lots of support for each other, and...AND sponsoring a giveaway! Ready. Set. WRITE! will kick off on Tuesday, June 11th with signups on our blogs. We'll set our first goals on the June 12th edition of What's Up Wednesday and update each other every Wednesday. In the meantime, decide what you want to write/revise. Set goals! Write a little. Or a lot. Spread the word! And be prepared to Ready. Set. WRITE!

  3. Wow, this sounds like a great idea! I like the individual approach, making it flexible for each person. The NaNoWriMo approach was a good motivator, but it ended up being totally anti-creative for me. I like this idea much better!

    1. I like the individual approach too. We're all at different stages in our writing, and we all have different ways of tackling things, so it's nice to tailor our approach to what works for us. :D

  6. I've never really set weekly goals for myself before. I've always just tried to write as many words as I could, so I'm really eager to see how this helps me tackle my latest WIP.

    1. I find that being able to check things off of some kind of list is great motivation, so this weekly goal-setting thing is kind of perfect right now. The whole 1000/day thing worked really well for me back when I first started writing, and I think something similar will be perfect right now to save me from my slacker ways. :D

  7. Yes, yes, and yes! This is exactly what I need. I'm just about to be finished with my revision (maybe I can finish up before the 11th!) and I want to dive right into a new first draft. I'm excited! :)

    1. Me too! I've been starting to slack off and I'm losing momentum in my revisions, which is so not good. This is the kick in the butt and the accountability that I need right now. So happy you're joining us! :D
