Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 2)

Welcome back to Ready. Set. WRITE! If you’re new this year and wondering what RSW is all about, it’s a summer long writing intensive with the purpose of writing, revising, or planning like crazy, plus a way to keep each other accountable. We will be sharing our goals on Mondays and keeping our posts BRIEF (2-3 lines tops per heading) to maximize our writing time and minimize on blogging. You can sign up on the linky at any of the host blogs every Monday. And don't forget to hop around to encourage other participants. For more info on RSW and a link to our buttons, go here.

{Please, please, please remember to keep your posts BRIEF. Thanks! ☺}

HOW I DID ON LAST WEEK'S GOALS
I surpassed my daily word count goals, adding 5000 words to IN THE END, and I now have a rough outline for the second part of this WiP. I also revised a chapter of WATCH OF NIGHT and figured out where to move this particular chapter. (I kept a record here.)

MY GOAL(S) FOR THIS WEEK
• add 500+ words, five days this week to IN THE END or a total of 3000 words for the week if I can't do all five days
• revise two chapters of WATCH OF NIGHT and make a few other tweaks

A FAVOURITE LINE FROM MY STORY OR ONE WORD/PHRASE THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED
Tattoos, disaster movies, and hand-holding…oh my.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED THIS WEEK
Getting back into a routine of writing almost every day, even when I did NOT feel motivated. But I'm getting there, so go me!

SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP
I love being inside my MC Nova's head. She’s witty (I think/hope) and crusty, and I just really love her voice.

*
HOW I DID:
Monday --» added more detail to my outline for IN THE END
Tuesday --» added 1600 new words to IN THE END and sorted out some plot issues (Thanks, Erin!)
Wednesday --» revised a chapter of WATCH OF NIGHT
Thursday --» added 1050 new words to IN THE END
Friday --» worked on character arcs for IN THE END
Saturday --» no words (saw TFIOS then was useless the rest of the day *sigh*)
Sunday --» added 1375 new words to IN THE END and revised a chapter of WATCH OF NIGHT

Happy Writing/Revising/Planning!

  2. You really got on a roll this week! Nice job on meeting your goals, and I hope this next week goes just as well if not better! As for Nova, I LOVE her voice too! In the little bit of your WIP I've read so far, she made me laugh out loud. We'll touch base about our writing goals at some point again this week, I'm sure. :)

    1. Thanks! I feel really good about what I accomplished and it's really giving me a much needed push to keep right on going. It makes me so, so happy that you enjoy Nova's voice too. Honestly, I think that was a huge boost to my confidence and overall motivation to get working seriously on this story. Looking forward to touching base this week, but then I always do! :D

  3. I really love the name Nova. Don't know too much about your MC but with a name like that I'm sure she has a pretty awesome voice. Congrats on surpassing last week's goals! 5,000 is a great number. Good luck this week. :)

    1. Thanks, Raven! I originally picked the name for a specific reason (relating to supernovas), but now I just like it. I'm thrilled about how this past week went, and I'm hoping the week ahead is just as productive! :D

  6. I love your MC's name! Writing when the motivation isn't there is the key to being a writer, I think. It's so easy to give up otherwise! keep it up this week :)

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! I picked the name Nova because of supernovas (something story-related), but mostly I just really like the name. I'm kind of proud of myself for powering through the lack of motivation. Honestly, I think it's giving me the motivation I need for this week! :D

  7. I love the way you described you MC — witty and crusty. Ha! It sounds like you were VERY productive this week, which is awesome. I love that you are working on something new as you revise. That's a great way to do it when possible. Have a wonderful week meeting your new goals!

    1. What can I say? I love witty and crusty. ;-) I'm pretty proud of the week I had, and I'm really hoping the coming week is just as productive. I'm enjoying working on both of these stories at the same time, which is kind of surprising me.

    1. I used to have such a great writing routine and stuck to it pretty religiously, but it's been like pulling teeth for the past several months. I'm so happy that I'm finally getting into one again! :D

  10. Congrats on surpassing your goals! It can be hard to get back into the swing of things after taking a few days off - I've been trying to do the same thing this week. Good luck with this week's goals!

    1. Thanks, Emma! I've been trying to get back into the swing of things for months now, so it feels awesome to finally have a writing routine established again. I'm looking forward to another productive week! :D

  11. First, I love your MC's name, Nova -- she just sounds cool. And second, the line you shared today rocks! Best of luck with your goals in the coming week!

    1. Thanks, Katy! I picked 'Nova' because of supernovas, which was significant to the story at one point. Might not be now, but I still like the name. :D I really enjoyed writing the scenes mentioned in my words that describe what I wrote section. Almost makes me want to get a tattoo. Almost... ;-)

  12. I love the mc name Nova! and I'm so curious as to how tattoos and disaster movies link up in your WIP! Good luck with your goals, Jaime!

    1. Thanks, Rachel! Nova was named because supernovas were significant to my story at one point. Not so much now, but I still really like the name. Although, disasters play into the story...quite a bit actually. (Hence the disaster movie marathon.) Looking forward to another productive week! :D

  13. Congrats on powering through and writing even on those days you weren't motivated! I have to second Rebecca--I love your MC's name. (I have a pilot in an adult sci-fi WIP with the same name... so maybe I'm biased.) ;)

    1. Thanks, Erin! It was super challenging, but it feels so awesome to have powered through. Honestly, it's giving me the motivation to get tons done this week as well. I love the name Nova (so named originally because supernovas factored into my story), and I think it's not at all common in the books I've seen around. So that's awesome! :D

  14. Tattoos and disaster movies? Love it! Congrats on getting into a routine- it takes awhile sometimes to really get back to it. Way to go!

    1. I usually aim for five days a week. Like a work week, really. That always worked well for me when I had a solid routine before. It feels great to be back in the practice writing on those five days, so that's motivation in and of itself. I'm looking forward to another productive week! :D

  16. I love the way you kept track of your writing progress! It must feel very inspiring to look back and see how much you did! I also LOVE the name Nova. Have a great week!

    1. I guess I kind of feel like if I put my daily progress out there for all to see, it keeps me accountable. So far, so good. I picked the name Nova because there was something to do with supernovas in my story at one point, but mostly I just really liked the name and it hasn't been used much (at all?) in YA. It's hard coming up with names that aren't totally bizarre or overused. Have a great week, Melanie! :D

  20. Love the name Nova! And tattoos....a plus in my book! The Day After Tomorrow is one of my favorite movies so YAY for dsiaster movies. I want to read this now! Congrats and good luck this week.

    1. Thanks, Mandie! I picked 'Nova' because my story had supernovas factored into it originally, and because it's not a common name in YA. (Seriously, it feels like every name is either too weird or has been used like crazy already.) I love The Day After Tomorrow and it's one of the movies mentioned in my story. I'm actually planning on watching my copy for the forty millionth time tonight. (We're totally on the same page movie-wise this week. You have excellent taste!) Have a great week! :D

I need to work on that, but like you said in your comment to me, once I start, it kind of just keeps going. So it's just getting my butt in the chair!

    Good luck!
