Writer Recharge: Week Two

It's Monday, which means it's Writer Recharge check-in time again!

Here's how I did and what I hope to accomplish in the coming week:

WRITE/REWRITE
My overarching goal for the month of February is to have 1/3 to 1/2 of my WiP drafted. This past week, I set a goal of adding 6000 new words to my WiP, EVERY SAD & LOVELY THING. I met my goal, coming in at just over 6000 words written! This week was busy, so I'm pretty proud.

This week → Add 6000 more new words to my WiP.

READ/REREAD
I finished FIRE WITH FIRE by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian. (My goal is to read the whole BURN FOR BURN trilogy.) I liked the first book, but holy cannoli, book two was SO good. Now, I'm about to eagerly dive into ASHES TO ASHES and would like to finish it this week. I'm also continuing my reread of RUBY RED by Kerstin Gier.

STRETCH
I wanted to shut off the TV two nights this week and do something else (read, write, whatever), but failed again. Beginning to think this is a goal I should just give up on. I mean, I like TV and I can knit while watching great shows, right? Right?

SELF
My goal was to eat fruits + veggies daily and exercise at least once (increasing this to twice, then three times, etc.). I didn't eat enough fruits + veggies, and I only went for one piddly walk that barely qualifies as exercise. I would like to go for more walks this week and maybe for longer. It has been so mild lately, so it's perfect walking weather. Also, more fruits + veggies.

CONNECT
I'm kind of giving up on the writing sprints thing unless they are happening when I'm sitting down to write. I'll check in on Twitter and see if anyone else is writing, but if not, I'm okay with that. I have been connecting more with writer friends via social media, so that's something that makes me very, very happy. I feel like I've been lazy about that in recent months.

FUN
I didn't get around to knitting this past week. Part of that was because I was waiting on new circular needles. (A lot of my patterns called for them.) SO, the plan is to get knitting and purling this week. I have something Austen-inspired in mind.

Check out these pretties. ♥ Can't wait to work with them!

So, #WriterRecharge peeps, how did you do this week?

  1. Great job on the words! I'm the same with writing sprints (like we did the other day) because of the time zone differences. I usually start writing in the morning (which in the US/Canada would be the middle of the night) and I'm crashing by the time everyone else starts writing!

    1. I've popped onto Twitter a few times and noticed there were Twitter parties going on, but there were so many @ handles in the tweets there really wasn't room for another. LOL Ah well. I'm very much a morning/afternoon writer and this doesn't always line up with others' writing schedules.

  2. Yay for exceeding your word goal! I've never had much luck with the twitter parties. I think I just need to be on my own schedule to have the creative juices flowing.

    1. Most of the time that's me too. If I'm going to sit down and make a serious attempt at writing, I need to set aside social media so it doesn't distract me. I have enjoyed doing the odd word sprint before, but mostly it's just easier to plow through it on my own. :-)

  3. Great job on writing! And I had an off week with exercise, too. I'm trying to use different tools like timers. If I feel like I'm losing steam with something, I tell myself I'll work for ten minutes, and then go walk. It's been working so far. You'll find your thing soon. Keep going!

    1. Thanks, Natasha! I find it SO hard to think about getting exercise when it has been snowing for too many months to count. It feels so much more natural to head outside for a walk or whatever when it's spring/summer and the weather is so much nicer. I've been using my timer for a lot of things lately too, but mainly writing. It really does make a big difference. Have a great week!

  4. Oh wow, those needles look gorgeous!!! :) And congrats on getting ALL THOSE WORDS in! I haven't been on Twitter much lately, still learning how to take care of Plato The Dog and act confidently so he thinks I'm the alpha dog. Lol. Not sure how that's working. We're going to start taking him to classes very soon so that might help.
    Cheering you on, Jaime!

    1. I love knitting with wooden needles. They feel so much nicer to work with. I'm pretty thrilled with the amount of writing I've been getting done lately. I'm going to be super bummed when Writer Recharge is over. It seems to be working really well for me! Hope things work out well with Plato and becoming the alpha dog. You can do it! ;-) Have a wonderful week, Elodie! :D

  5. The winter weather makes it so difficult for me to want to exercise so I hear you on that front. I have lapsed BIG TIME. But more writing can take place, right? And sounds like you are doing so much! Go YOU! Hope you have another great week!

    1. I just want to be cozy inside with a blanket and a book. I certainly don't want to be exercising. LOL But you're so right about more writing. I suppose that's partly why I've gotten so much done. Can't complain about that! Have a great week, Alison! :D

  6. I think you're entitled to TV time when you're logging 6K words and finishing (at least) a book a week. Enjoy it! And getting back to knitting already -- I can't wait for you to open your Etsy shop. Best of luck with your goals this week, Jaime!

    1. You know, the whole time I was watching TV I kept thinking, "I should be reading ASHES TO ASHES." lol I just couldn't wait to get to the end and find out what happened. I had every intention of doing some knitting last night, but didn't. Again. Soon though! Have a great week, Katy! :D

    1. These word counts are the kinds of word counts I haven't had in a few years. Needless to say, I'm happy to be back churning out the words again. Hope it lasts!
Have a great week, Liz! :D

    1. I can't quit it either. So much inspiration to be found there, so it's not a bad thing, right? (Look at me rationalizing it lol.) Have a great week, Jennifer! :D

  9. Good for you for including yourself in this! Taking care of you will make sure everything else gets done too. :)

  10. Great job on the word count, Jamie! So envious of people who can read a lot and write a lot in a short timespan. I can binge on one or the other but haven't figured out how to fit both activities into the same week! Good luck with your walking and healthier eating this week. :)

  11. I'm realizing, too, that I can only really do writing sprints if I happen to be writing, anyway. And since I've been doing a lot of research this week, too, it doesn't really lend itself well to sprinting :)

    Great job on your WIP!
