Baking! I've always loved baking, but lately it's been a little difficult finding the time. Add to that the fact that I loathe our too-tiny kitchen with the fire of a thousand suns. My latest favourite baked good is sour cream pound cake topped with Devon custard and whatever fresh berries I can find. The raspberries we used the last time I made it were soooo delicious.

Also loving: #SockSunday. I've been meaning to take part in this fun Instagram challenge, but only got around to it for the first time this past weekend. I've been loving all the #SockSunday photos coming up in my feed each week. Plus, I ♥ socks.

I finally finished THE WINNER'S KISS after nearly two months. Let me just say, it's not the kind of book that you can read in bits and pieces. Honestly, picking it up and putting it down repeatedly made it difficult to enjoy as much as I enjoyed the first two in the series. I'll have to reread the whole trilogy again sometime when I'm a whole lot less distracted.

After that, I picked up EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING by Nicola Yoon and got totally sucked into this quick and delightful read. I loved all of the little doodles on the pages (by the author's husband), got swept up in Maddie and Olly's sweet romance, and even though I guessed something pretty major very early on, it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story. I have a lot of thoughts about this one, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a sweet contemporary.

I just started reading THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING by Morgan Matson, and I'm super excited to devour this one. Anything Morgan Matson is an instabuy for me. It's exactly the kind of book I'm in the mood for right now too.

A whole lot of HGTV and not a whole lot else. My favourite shows: Fixer Upper, Income Property, The Expandables, and Home To Win. (At least a few of these are Canadian shows.) I'm learning so much and drooling over so many gorgeous design ideas. Other than that, I've been watching Game of Thrones and trying my hardest not to stumble across spoilers on Twitter every Sunday night. Incidentally, people live-tweeting shows drives me completely bonkers. #giantpetpeeve

Not much. If we're talking music, that is. Gemma has been making little noises like she's trying to laugh, so that's adorable.

I'm going to try my hardest to start writing again this week. Gemma has been taking longer, more consistent naps these days, which allows me to sneak in some of the stuff I need to do and/or love to do. So, I've narrowed down the multitude of WiPs I have on the go to one that I'd like to focus on, and I'm thinking about some of the changes I need to make and some of the gaps I still need to fill. In addition to this, I've been thinking about and jotting down ideas for another story I've been wanting to write for a while now. It's similar in many respects to a book I just finished reading, but I'm not sure I'm going to allow that to keep me from writing it. I like the idea far too much to give up on it.

I'm really looking forward to making better use of Gemma's nap times, like I mentioned above. It's going to be a challenge squeezing in writing, reading, knitting, and all of the chores that need to get done as well, but it just means I'm going to have to get more disciplined with my time. I guess that's where my trusty planner will come in handy, right?

A little sweater I'm currently knitting for Gemma.

That I could own my own business. I've had a lot of ideas for businesses, but the one that really interests me, that I really wish I could make happen is to open a cafĂ© in the town I live in. It would be wonderful to take my barista experience and my love of baking and make this a reality, but I'm not sure it's exactly feasible for a whole multitude of reasons.

Still, it's nice to dream about it and make up plans, you know?

I've been stir crazy lately and irked by all the clutter around this place, so I've been making small changes here and there to make me happier with my surroundings. I shortened the legs on a pub table (that we've been hauling around every time we move) and swapped it out with the too-large table that was in our breakfast nook. It makes a HUGE difference in the room and makes it feel less tiny. I also affixed a makeshift shelf/desk thingy to the wall in the living room for my desktop computer in order to facilitate the writing I hope to do in the coming days. I spend most of my time in this room, so it only makes sense. It's not the most attractive set up in the world, but it's useful and that's good enough for me.

And, of course, this little face makes me the happiest of all. ♥♥♥

(Her eyes aren't quite this blue. The filter I chose did that.)

So, what are you currently up to?

  1. That #SockSunday picture is the GREATEST. <3 Love all the yellow and, of course, THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING!

So exciting you're going to squeeze in some writing time this week. And I say go for that story idea, even if you're worried it might be too similar to one that's already been published. You never know how your story will change and grow. :) Cheering you on with (figurative) pompoms!

Hope you have a great week, Jaime! :)

    1. Thanks, Kaitlin! :D I had a lot of fun taking the photo, though it was super challenging trying to get all of that fun stuff into the shot. LOL I felt like the yellow was a good background for all of it. Can't wait to read more of THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING. I feel like I have so little time these days to dedicate to doing the things I love, so if I'm going to write, it's going to take me longer to get through TUE. Such is life, right?

So far today, I've managed to squeeze in some revisions while the baby naps, so that's a great start. Here's hoping I can keep it up!

      Have a wonderful week! :D

  2. Love the SockSunday post. I still need to read The Winner's Kiss so don't feel too bad about picking up and starting it again-I feel so bad I haven't even looked at it. (That, and Winter by Marissa Meyer.) I guess I just don't want my series to end? LOL. Glad to hear you are switching around furniture and making things work for you as well as brainstorming ideas for WIPs and MAJOR congrats to G.C. on napping longer--I bet Mom and Dad appreciate that ;)
    have a wonderful week, Jaime!

    1. I'm going to try to do SockSunday when I can because it's tons of fun. As for series ending books, I'm the absolute worst for not getting to them. I have so many trilogies I still need to finish. Trouble is, I don't really remember what happened in the first two books in any of the trilogies. Oops!

Well, the little shelf desk worked well today. I managed to squeeze in some writing time while G napped, so that was awesome! Have a great week, Rachel! :D

  3. I was just about to comment on those blue eyes when I saw your filter comment :) Such a sweetie!

I think I'm going to tackle the WINNER'S books this summer - everyone has been raving about them lately. And the other books you mentioned are on my TBR-list, too. So many books, not enough time!

Ah, so I finally understand what #SockSunday is now. I don't have an Instagram so I was only seeing the occasional post and it wasn't clicking haha.

    Have a great week!

    1. I felt a bit bad posting the photo of Gemma when I realized how misleading the colour of her eyes was. LOL They're bluish grey most days, not quite this blue. :-)

I definitely recommend the WINNER'S books. I wish I'd had more focus while reading the final book. I should have known better than reading it while I was so distracted. Ah well. I'll have to stick to lighter stuff. Actually, one of the things I loved about EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING was that it had nice short chapters. That made it much more manageable.

Haha! I'd be totally confused about the #SockSunday thing myself if I didn't have Instagram. It would look like people just had a sock fetish or something. (Though, I do love a good pair of socks. ;D ) Have an awesome week, Jennifer!

  4. Gemma is seriously one of the CUTEST babies I've ever seen. I will never get tired of seeing photos of her! That pound cake looks amazing. If you've got a recipe to share, I'd love to try it. And I'm so excited to hear that you're going to get back into writing! You know where to find me if you ever want company or a very eager beta reader. <3

    1. Thank you, Katy! We think she's pretty cute, but we're seriously biased. ;-) I worry I post too many photos of her and that I'm driving people nuts or something. LOL You know, I tried to track down the pound cake recipe online when I was doing up this post, but couldn't find it quickly enough. When I find it, I'll send it your way. As for writing, I actually sat down today and worked at it a bit. I need more of a game plan going forward, but it just felt good to make the time for it, you know? Next time I write, I'll see what you're up to. And you're at the top of my list for beta readers. My main goal is to *finally* finish something again. It's been WAY too long. Have a great week, Katy! :D

  5. Gemma is SO cute!!! Of course, she's occupying most of your time! I do hope you get some more time for writing though! I also love the color of the sweater you're knitting for her. :)

I too am not a fan of livetweeting. I get that it is just something we have to live with now, but I would appreciate it if they *try* to avoid spoilers or give us fair warning. Or in my case, I just really wish they'd remember that the West Coast exists and we are 3 hours behind. I've been spoiled by like official show accounts before because they're like HERE IS A PICTURE OF EPIC SPOILER & I'm like "Yo, I couldn't even have avoided that by scrolling by really fast. Thanks a lot." -__-

But to end on a happier note, yay Sock Sunday! I'm not very consistent with that, but I do enjoying doing those photos. Glad to have you join in! :D

    1. Thanks, Alice! We think she's pretty cute too. ;-) She had a super long nap today, which gave me a nice chunk of time to work on writing. I didn't accomplish a ton, but it was nice to dive back into my WiP and get acquainted with it again. Now I just need some sort of game plan.

I know what you mean about the time difference thing. I'm an hour ahead of you, I think, so I'm still behind so many of my blog friends. One of my favourite authors is actually the worst for live-tweeting spoilers. I'll never understand why show accounts do it, though. When I remember, I try to avoid Twitter on Sunday nights, but I often forget.

I'm going to try to do SockSunday more often when I can. It's totally fun! Have a great week, Alice! :D

  6. I'm so happy you're trying to get back into writing! It was fun discussing all things writing the other day when we Skyped, and I'm looking forward to more chats like that. We need to keep each other motivated. I think we already talked about a lot of what's in this post, but I'll add that I love your #SockSunday pic, and you know I think opening a cafe would be the perfect business for you. Give Gemma a squish for me! As always, she's adorable in that picture. :)

    1. Well, I sat down for a nice chunk of time today while Gemma napped, so that was nice. I didn't accomplish much but I did get reacquainted with my story. I need a game plan going forward. I enjoyed our Skype chat the other night too. It helps me feel more motivated to write, which is good. I'll be sure to give Gemma an extra big squish from you. :D

  7. Aw, she's so adorable! Glad the sleeping time is evening out for you. Nothing more frustrating then putting them down and thinking you've got an hour of free time, only to hear crying after twenty minutes! I love that you're dreaming of a cafe, I bet you'd be amazing at that. Dreaming is never a waste of time, even if it's over something that's not feasible at the moment.

    1. Thanks, Leandra! :D She's doing such a great job with naps, so that's wonderful. Though, as I'm typing this, she's just looking around *instead* of napping. LOL You're right about dreaming and how it's never a waste of time. I think without dreaming, we'd never reach beyond the ordinary things in our lives, you know?

  9. OMG, when the naps get longer it’s SO much easier! It’s life-giving! Gemma is such a cutie, but it’s nice to get time for yourself once in a while, too! I’m on the opposite side of that, with my 2.5 year old who has decided he is done with naps now. He still has a “quiet time” in his room every day, which is 100% not quiet at all, lol.

Glad you’re getting back to writing! And I am currently making my way through the Winners series—I like them a lot so far but I do find them sort of easy to put down sometimes.

    1. I honestly didn't expect her to nap so well so soon. I'm absolutely loving it. I know it won't always be like this, but I'm going to take advantage of it while it lasts. Getting back to writing is so much more challenging than I thought it might be, but I'm getting there slowly but surely. It feels great! Have a wonderful week, Crystal! :D
